STOP PRESS

The fame of MCM Coventry Stadium’s Whites and Yellows series, which has attracted good fields of cars since the beginning of the season, has spread to Holland. Lopik based B grade driver H132 Roy van Zullen has booked in for the 1 October meeting.

(If the number of C & B grade drivers wanting to race at Coventry keeps on rising, perhaps the promoter would consider running a meeting just for the Whites and Yellows. What a great way to attract new drivers to BriSCA F1 this could be! )

Also from Lopik, Dutch A grade driver H 179 Spaak Kentie features in heat two and heat three has two more visitors from the Netherlands: from Zuid H414 Arno van Zwielen racing with the Blues and Star Grade driver H172 Ron Varkark from Papekok.

Dutch drivers can always be counted on to add entertainment value to F1 Stock Car Racing and a warm welcome awaits them at MCM Stadium, Coventry on Sat 1st October.

BriSCA F1 Stock Cars return to MCM Coventry Stadium on Saturday 1 October for Round 4 of the Shoot Out series which will, at its finale, determine the National Points Champion for 2011 and the driver able to wear the coveted Silver Roof.

Oxfordshire driver Tom Harris heads the point scoring table going into round four, closely followed by man of the moment 2011 World Champion Paul Harrison. After being the nearly man for so many years this popular Rotherham based driver could end up having silver stripes added to his golden aerofoil, interlaced with the black and white chequers he can also sport as 2011 British Champion. Doing the Triple is not beyond the realms of possibility and it is going to make for an exciting night at Coventry as a determind World Champion continues to make his presence felt on track.

The ever welcome Ministox formula provides support races. This month it is the turn of the BriSCA National Ministox to show us what we have to look forward to in years to come as these talented youngsters develop their oval racing techniques. Sam Roper 333 looks to be heading towards being crowned Coventry Track Champion and it is the first appearance of new Number One driver Max Hertzog who won the Ministox Gold Top race, deposing Bradley Harrison who reverts to his number 22.

And for something completely different UK Sprint cars comes to town. Tarmac racers will be on display in the pits while the shale racers will put on a bit of a show when they take to the oval. Another Chevy powered formula who race mainly in the south of the country we are privileged to have them at Brandon in all their glory. Be prepared to be blown away by the roar of Vince O’Connor’s Rolling Thunder Show.

It is last chance qualifying race for the Whites and Yellows who have their own Championship finale at Coventry in November. Will Coventry’s rival to ZZ Top, the wonderful Geoff Nickolls, clinch the Championship next month? He has an unassailable lead in the points table going into the last round so should, barring accident be on pole position for this lower grader’s biggie.

The next two meetings at MCM Stadium Coventry are building up to a great end of season spectacular for the drivers who have supported our meetings all season. Just reward on 5 November (6.30) is enhanced prize funding for drivers and some rather special races for the fans.

Saturday 1st October, start time 7.00pm. Coventry MCM Stadium, Rugby Road, Brandon.
Covered Grandstand seating and terracing, free car parking, track view bar and restaurant.

Round two of the F1 Stock Cars HEMT National Points Shoot Out takes place at MCM Stadium Coventry on Saturday 3 September and Banbury based Tom Harris currently heads the table.

Coventry ‘local’ drivers are doing rather well in the prestigious Championships currently taking place. From Hinckley, Paul Hines won the second World Championship Semi Final putting himself on pole position at the World Final on 10 September.

Rob Cowley (Nuneaton) and Mickey Randell (Sharnford) both came into their respective Semi Final races as reserves and now sit opposite each other on row 13 on the same World Final Grid.

Things are looking promising for home based drivers to challenge for one of the top prizes in BriSCA F1.

Nevertheless at Brandon this Saturday, complacency will not be on the menu. After Andrew Smith’s stunning heat and final victory at our September meeting – all of the National Series Shoot Out drivers will have to look to their laurels to add to their points tallies, and fans will be hoping from more of the same from the World Champion who literally took our breath away last month.

There are just three F1 meetings left to run at Coventry and the count down to the domestic trophies has begun, the Whites and Yellows Series gathers apace and 38 lower grade drivers have booked in for this meeting. 215 Geoff Nickolls currently heads the points table in this contest. October 1st is the last qualifying round for this series before the Finale in November

Frankie Wainman Junior and Andrew Smith are leading contenders in the Teng Tools World of Shale Series – the Finale of which is in our November programme of events, together with the Stock Car Magazine Grand National Championship Final.

September 3rd is going to be busy, October 1st a time for consolidation even busier and 5th November’s mega programme of events is going to be huge.

Can our local stars pull things off – or will the establishment of super talent hang onto the reigns of the best oval racing in the world?

Next weekend we will know who the World Champion is and that possibly is the only thing we can be certain of right now.

Nothing in the World can be certain except death and taxes, so said Benjamin Franklin – At Coventry we are quite certain that once the dust has settled on the 2011 World Championship – the shale shifters will be hard at it fighting for the trophies still on offer right up until the last Goodyear clad wheel has turned on the Brandon Oval..
