A slightly different format to normal was used, with the first heat being for the white and yellow grades, the non-qualifiers from this heat then being allowed to take part in one of the other two heats with the blue and red grades.

Heat 1 started with 192 Luke Dennis, 357 Jonathan Lewis and 252 Paul Redfern tangling to collect the pit gate. 353 Nigel Friswell was quickly passed by 362 Lionel Shaw for the lead, as 158 James Clement spun into the turn 3 marker tyres. 330 Graham Wagstaff then overhauled Shaw to take the lead, as 98 Les Spencer tangled with 192 Dennis off turn 4. 192 Dennis got going again, only to be the wars again after bouncing off the fence on turn 4 and into 223 Garry Townsend on the home straight, ending spun against the armco, prompting the yellow flags. 306 Ian Noden then overhauled 330 Wagstaff on the restart with a couple of laps to run to take the chequered. However, Noden forgot to get his car weighed after the race and was disqualified, the win being awarded to 330 Wagstaff.

Heat 2 saw 84 Tom Harris spin to get T-boned by 380 Steven Cayzer on turn 2, as 306 Noden soon took the lead. 321 Ed Neachell rode over the turn 1 marker tyres, as 390 Stuart Smith Jnr retired to the infield with mechanical problems. 101 David Waterhouse collected the pit bend fence in the latter stages of the race, as 306 Noden took the win to make up for heat 1. 55 Craig Finnikin spun 97 Murray Harrison on the last bend to claim second place.

362 Shaw set the early pace in the third heat before 13 Andy Ford went past. 192 Dennis bumpered 357 Lewis to hit the pit bend fence, as 158 Clement dished out a hit to 362 Shaw to send him wide and move into second. 4 Daniel Johnson, 2 Paul Harrison and 515 Frankie Wainman Jnr came through the field to chase the leader, with Wainman bumpering Harrison wide. 4 Johnson overhauled 158 Clement, before reeling in Ford, hitting him wide into the town bend for the lead. On the last lap, Ford tried to get back on terms with Johnson with a lunge into the pit bend, but he half spun himself, allowing Johnson to go on for the flag and victory.

362 Shaw led the consolation, before tangling with 192 Dennis on the home straight, Dennis riding up the armco. Shaw managed to keep going to stay in the lead, as 98 Spencer collected 8 Mick Harris on turn 3 to go fencebound. 291 Dan Squire, 84 Harris and 338 Chris Brocksopp had a close mid-order scrap, Squire getting spun out, as 197 Ryan Harrison caught 362 Shaw and shoved him aside into the pit bend to take over at the front. 496 Neil Holcroft then spun in front of the front runners on turn 4, but they managed to avoid him, as 192 Dennis collected the turn 1 fence in the late stages of the race to run round the armco to turn 2. 197 Harrison maintained his lead to take the chequered.

The Final had a hectic start, with 322 James Neachell T-boning brother 321 Ed on the back straight, as 121 Kevin Shinn took an immediate lead, neither of the white grade qualifiers having gridded. 35 Neil Shenton spun in a turn 4 melee, which caused 1 Andy Smith to also spin, as 35 Shenton collected 97 Harrison. 515 Wainman was then put into the fence on turn 3 in a big shunt, causing him to retire, before 97 Harrison and 197 Harrison tangled on the home straight to bring out the yellow flags. 121 Shinn headed the restart, as 105 Chris Bonner clipped another car to wheelie on the home straight and into the fence, spinning round. 322 Neachell bumpered past 121 Shinn, the chequered dropping on him, but a check of the lap charts showed he was a lap down, and 121 Shinn took his first ever Coventry Final win.

The National started with a melee at the end of the home straight amongst the blue grades, causing 105 Bonner to collect the marker tyres and sending him into a rollover on turn 1, Bonner sliding along on his roof before returning back to all fours. The race was halted, with 390 Smith spinning on turn 4 on the restart saw, as 1 Smith spun on turn 3 almost at the same time. 515 Wainman got hooked up with another car to lose time, as 97 Harrison quickly got into the lead and 4 Johnson clouted 2 Harrison wide. 515 Wainman tried to make up for losing time by bumpering past 55 Finnikin and then 496 Holcroft, Finnikin then repaying Wainman. 97 Harrison stayed ahead for the rest of the race for the win.

A reasonable turnout of cars, with some material present, 51 Simon Heilds returning his Icebreaker Buick Roadmaster, while 536 Annette Nicholls and 54 Richard Haywood both had XJS’s, the latter’s fresh. 05 Carlos Perez had a used Mk1 Granada Coupe, 137 Paul Tagg a Mk2 Granada limo and 266 Callum Hall a well smart Nissan 300C.

Heat 1 saw 33 Matthew Walker bail out of his car on the rolling lap, leaving it halfway down the home straight, where 43 Nicky Bishop ran into it, with 67 Rickie Beasley blitzing Bishop. 137 Tagg ran 360 Jack Reynolds into the fence on turn 3, as 97 Dave Allen hooked out 51 Heilds on the pit bend. 041 Glenn Whetland then spun 05 Perez, before doing likewise to Heilds, as 275 Joe Morgan fenced 55 Graham Smith. Long time leader 267 Martin French was overhauled by 218 Rob Speak in the latter stages, Speak going on for the win.

837 Martin Wesby soon led heat 2, as the rear of the field got into a pile up on turn 4, with 137 Tagg running into 05 Perez head-on. 137 Tagg then fenced 51 Heilds, as 97 Allen shoved 275 Morgan and 218 Speak wide on the pit bend. 175 Gary Mallinson followed in 536 Nicholls on turn 4, Nicholls collecting 67 Beasley as she hit the fence to tip the latter onto two wheels. 360 Reynolds ran into the fenced 51 Heilds, Heilds getting going again to reverse into the stationary Reynolds in revenge, as 837 Wesby stayed ahead of the chasing 97 Allen to claim victory.

The Final was a much quieter affair than the earlier heats, with 148 Ian Redden spinning 137 Tagg, 218 Speak hooked out Redden, before 301 Dan Pullen blew up in a cloud of steam. 54 Haywood took an early lead, which he maintained to the line for the win.

Just 7 cars returned for the Allcomers, 360 Reynolds and 51 Heilds again exchanged hits, as 148 Redden led. 175 Mallinson spun 51 Heilds into the home straight fence, before Reynolds got in another hit on Heilds on turn 2. 148 Redden took the chequered, before 17 Nick Sweet attacked 51 Heilds off turn 2 just prior to the red flags coming out.
