V8 Hotstox

V8’s celebrated their 25th Anniversary in 2009 and what a fantastic year it was for this particular formula. After a few years of car numbers decreasing in the late 90’s and early part of this decade, the past few seasons have seen a fresh batch of drivers join the sport bringing in a breath of fresh air and enjoying what is a brilliant division.

The V8’s were devised by Long Eaton promoter, Keith Barber, back in the early 80’s and by 1984 a new formula was born. The steel chassis is a basic ladder construction with the lump under the bonnet in the form of a Rover V8. This formula quickly became a cheaper alternative to BriSCA FI’s with less running cost thanks to budget tyres and less engine tuning required. In fact it quickly materialised into a perfect training ground for up and coming drivers who aim for FI’s but learn track craft and mechanical ability within the HotStox, with several Ministox racers using this division as a perfect stepping stone before reaching the dizzy heights of the big brother formula.

V8’s race all over the country but always enjoy appearing on the hallowed ground of Coventry Stadium. Some say that returning to Coventry in the late 90’s gave the formula the opportunity to grow again benefiting greatly from running alongside the BriSCA FI’s and appealing to a hardcore of stock car fans on the track that is classed as the Mecca of oval racing. Over the past few years V8’s have been welcomed at Coventry and we have seen many drivers work their way through the ranks and take glory in front of the capacity Brandon crowds and we hope this continues throughout 2010.
