UK Modifieds
One of the latest formulas to take to the UK short ovals as they appeared only a couple of years ago and have proven to be very popular with racing stalwarts along with first time racers. These machines are powered by motorcycle engines which produce up to 200bhp, and in a car that weighs only 500kg's this makes them pretty quick indeed. They are rather eye-catching as they are different to anything else on the oval scene with their flat side panels and unique shape; however that's what makes this formula stand out from the rest and with the roar of the engine and the sheer speed they are quite a spectacle.
Over the pond these cars are extremely popular as the Dwarf Car division or the Modlites as they are also known are nationwide across the USA. It is fiercely competitive as these machines are so agile and require skill and a little bit of luck to make it to the chequered.
Many of these UK Modifieds have been imported from the USA but over the past few years drivers are starting to build their own chassis which are basically a space frame style with a 'stock' body bolted on. This formula has proved very popular as it takes around £7,000 to get up and running and then the actual maintenance cost is very modest. What also helps is that these cars are pretty small and lightweight therefore no mega transporter required.
Coventry suits this particular racing division exceptionally well and they are set to appear twice during 2010.
