Rebels Racing

Rebels were formed in 1995 and quickly became the fastest growing short oval formula. Slightly different to other stock car formulas as these cars are built by the Rebels factory and sold ready to race rather than the driver and his/her team building a stock car from scratch. This keeps all cars identical bar the paintwork and therefore highly competitive. Each car is strictly scrutineered and engines are sealed eliminating ‘cheque book racing’ and therefore appealing to a wide audience as it is simply down to drivers skill and sometimes a little bit of luck.

Cars are based on a 5/8th scale of a Ford Popular and run a Reliant 850cc engine. All cars weigh the same with the driver and run on the same tyres. Rebels run the same rules as BriSCA FI & FII’s etc with regard to contact and are heavily armoured so the front bumper can dish out a tap or two in a bid for the driver to work his or her way through to the front of the pack. This formula runs graded starts in the heats where the superstar group grid up at the rear of the field and the lower graders have a slight head start by lining up at the front. The Feature Final is slightly different to other formulas as it is a clutch start and the grid is in a 2-3 formation. In this instance the highest points scorer from both heats takes to the pole position and therefore it is a fight to turn one amongst the top men. Up to forty rebels fight it out on the small oval which results in action packed racing from the moment the green flag is waved.

This year Coventry is hosting the World Wide Rebellion for the Rebels on Saturday 2nd October where forty of the top Rebellers will fight it out for the chance to wear the gold fin for twelve months and add their name to the Rebel Roll of Honour.
