Apologies for anyone trying to book tickets before the midnight deadline on Saturday, due to such a surge in visitors to the site we had technical difficulties. We are now back on line and we have extended our advance ticket price sales deadline to Tuesday lunchtime. Please telephone the office on 02476 542 395. Once again, apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Tickets will be on sale at full price from Tuesday afternoon until WF day but if you want to grab the chance to enter the stadium 30 mins before the gates open please book by Tuesday 24th August midday. Thank you.

It is with regret that we have to announce the cancellation of the Coventry fixture – 21st August 2010. This is due to a couple of factors, several critical forthcoming speedway fixtures as well as a low car turnout booked for this particular meeting. Micro Street Bangers will now feature on the 18th September alongside the Unlimited Street Banger event making this a fantastic fixture as the V8’s will also be appearing as well as the ever growing Stoxkarts.
Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Gears and Tears Press Release.
BBC1: 6 x 30 min
From Monday August 2nd for six weeks at 10.35PM
Motorsport’s best kept secret, BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Car Racing, will be secret no longer when BBC One’s new documentary series ‘Gears and Tears’ goes to air on Monday August 2nd at 10.35PM. It’s an obsession that’s divided two rival families for forty years; two racing dynasties who, every weekend, fight fiery gladiatorial showdowns in thundering purpose built chariots designed to push the opposition off the track.
Narrated by well known actor Ralph Inneson this series offers the chance to find out more about the drivers and families involved in the most spectacular motorsport in Britain. No other racing combines the enormous power of the F1’s with full contact; these drivers don’t wait for an opportunity to overtake, they simply smash each other out of the way with their car’s formidable steel bumpers, usually several times a lap.
This six part documentary series follows the story behind the leading characters in a single Stock Car season and focuses upon the battle between the Wainmans from Yorkshire and the Smiths from Lancashire. A latter day War of the Roses conducted in an arena where passion, pride and family are everything. Frankie Wainman Jnr and Andy Smith are arch rivals but have much in common. Their fathers, Frankie ‘Smiler’ Wainman Snr and Stuart ‘The Maestro’ Smith Snr, were the leading drivers in the ‘70s and ‘80s when Stock Car racing was as much a part of popular culture as Wrestling, Curly Wurlys and the Rubik’s Cube.
Racing is a way of life that demands total family commitment. Drivers are championed by wives, girlfriends, mothers and grandmas who are even more passionate than their men folk. Crashes and tears trackside are the order of the day as the six episodes progress through a season that takes the competition between the two dynasties to fever pitch. Many other top drivers in F1 Stock Car racing also feature in the series.
Over a nine month season the film makers enjoyed unprecedented access to this world of everyday heroes from all walks of life. Gears and Tears celebrates values often forgotten in contemporary British society where enthusiasm, improvisation and home grown engineering skills are still king.
It’s the stuff of legends.
BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars
If you think stock car racing is a way of using up old Ford Granadas think again. BriSCA F1 stock cars are purpose built racing machines costing around £35,000 and designed to race hard and fast on quarter mile ovals - where the ability to give and take punishment is just as important as outright speed. The racing is close because the rules are tightly defined, but fast because these cars have no upper engine size limit. Most drivers use Chevy based V8 race engines, small or big block, with 650bhp being the minimum needed to be competitive.
Many cars have as much as 850bhp making for spectacular racing as drivers battle to retain control of a car with far more power than grip. Commercial vehicle based live axles are mandatory, as are locked differentials, so stock cars have to corner in a drift, whilst trying to push the opposition into the fence.

ASE Emmen zaterdag 5 juni 2010 Stockcarracing van de bovenste plank
Next month we have the ever popular Golden Helmet event on the Coventrystox agenda - click on the News Bulletin page for more info regarding this exciting meeting.
Twenty-seven cars are programmed to race and late applications received from a further two white top drivers who will be given bookings but will not appear in the programme. No doubt after a weekend of hard racing at Kings Lynn and Belle Vue, there may be one or two cancellations but full grid of keen competitors looks very likely. Amongst the ‘Yellows’ are Rob Cowley, Robert Broome, Neil Shenton, Geoff Nickolls, Dave Willis (all being well after his incident at Lynn) and Chris Bonner. A class act by anybody’s standard and should make heat two a real feature of the meeting. Of course these drivers have a hard act to follow 24 Stars and Super Stars Racing for the Trust Fund Trophy in a special race which kicks of the meeting. Another fifteen super Blue Roof drivers will be adding their own special brand of racing with the stars – although one could argue that Mick Harris, Steven Cayzer, Simon Panton, Joe Booth, Dan Squire and Chris Cowley are stars in their own right anyway. We then have the traditional three heats, consolation, final and grand national in a meeting sponsored by mobilecashmate.com and Millers Oils are putting up an additonal £500 for grade award winners. It really promises to be an exciting night of racing for the BriSCA F1’s with so much on offer right across the grades. BriSCA F2’s have rallied around us again. 71 of the super quick shale racers including Messrs Brennan, Polley, Bradbury, Cooper, Palmer plus eleven more star grade drivers of the calibre of Coventry favourites Bert Finnikin and Mark Simpson make this a F2 meeting to equal or perhaps even rival the excitement of their bigger F1 brothers. Whatever happens we know both formulae will do their utmost to put on an entertaining night’s racing for the fans. Hope to see you on Saturday 5 June start time 7:00pm. Think you may be sorry if you miss this one.
On Saturday 5 June at Coventry Stadium a lot will be happening on track and behind the scenes.
The BriSCA F1 Trust Fund Race is an addition to the programme. The meeting format will follow the same modus operandi as the May meeting – A Whites and Yellows only heat, two further heats, consolation, final and grand national.
The Trust Fund race is an extra bonus heat and already 21 drivers have booked in to support this necessary fund raising activity for the BSCDA. Once again drivers will circulate amongst the crowd collecting from the very generous Coventry spectators to bolster the Fund which looks after drivers injured in racing incidents.
The experimental format at our May meeting, the track grading and Kevin Shinn’s final win seems to have met with approval and promoter Jeremy Heaver wants to give it another go on Saturday.
Behind the scenes Stadium owner Avtar Sandhu has invited a number of prospective sponsors to the June meeting, arranging for them to get some first-hand experience by putting on a Sponsor’s Race earlier in the evening and treating them to a level of hospitality that only Coventry can provide with its luxurious hospitality suites and restaurant.
The meeting is sponsored by mobilecashmate.com. and the Trust Fund meeting Grade Awards by the ever supportive Millers Oils.
BriSCA F2 return for a World of Shale round and at going to press 68 drivers had booked in to race on a track where they are growing in popularity due to the exciting nature of their three-abreast around the bends racing.
All in all it promises to be at least an enteraining meeting, at best a good value for money meeting with an extra heat and no admission price increase.
If you are coming along, please bring a few extra pennies for the BSCDA Trust Fund – an extra 1p from one thousand people makes another £100. Bring your air horns and smiley faces and treat Coventry’s guests and sponsors mobilecashmate.com to a night they will never forget by raising the roof off the stadium with cheers for your favourite driver.
Admission £16 adult / £12 concession / Children 12 and over £5.00 – 11 years and under FREE.
Don't miss the 5th June Brisca FI and FII stock car bonanza sponsored by Mobile Cash Mate (www.mobilecashmate.com) Start Time 7.00p.m. Not only are the FII's fighting it out for vital World of Shale points but the FI's will be battling it out for the annual Ben Fund race - definitely a meeting not to be missed.

At a loose end this Saturday night? Why not come along to Coventry Stadium for a four wheeled extravaganza consisting of Street Bangers, V8 Hot Stox, National Mini Stox and UK Modifieds.
A whopping forty two Street Bangers made it out in force for their opening meeting in April and provided top notch racing. This type of formula is needed to bring Bangers back to what they should be which is FUN. 718 Adie Brown, 677 Glen Nash and 54 The Bandit were the first 3 in April’s final which was a fast and close battle that lasted till the last bend 718 taking the all important Gold Cup qualifying points. This Saturday is another Gold Cup qualifying round so if you haven’t already booked in please get in touch and come along and join in on the action. The mighty BriSCA Mini’s are back again with their no fear approach to racing, great numbers have booked in yet again which will provide close racing from all grades. Wainman, Harrison, Jacklin, Smith, Aldridge anybody would think we had Brisca F1’s appearing, however this is the next generation and they will be chomping at the bit come the green flag.
V8 Hot Stox make their first appearance in 2010 and it is looking to be a strong field of these enthralling machines for a 2010 World Qualifying round. 81 Matt Smith and 161 Mark Allen lead the field for the Super Stars and are always rapid around the Brandon bowl.
UK Modifieds are growing in numbers and the Coventry promotion has supported the formula from the start, this being their third meeting of the year and 04 Charles Wheelton is leading the points chart with an impressive 43 points. Charles is booked in to appear this weekend and let’s see if he can carry on his form and increase his lead over the other drivers.
All in all this meeting is looking to be first class entertainment so don’t be late – first race kicks off at 7.00p.m. sharp! Turnstiles open at 5p.m.
Admission – Adults £12, Children 11-15 £5, Under 11's FREE.

And Now for Something Completely Different …
BriSCA F1 Stock Cars return to Coventry Stadium on Saturday 1 May (7.00pm) for another round of the National Series Points Championship currently headed by 19 years old Daniel Johnson from Worksop, Notts, ahead of seasoned campaigners Paul Harrison, Frankie Wainman Junior and World Champion Andrew Smith.
This second meeting on the Brandon shaleway follows the tried and tested formula of 3 heats, consolation race, final and grand national, although on this occasion there is something completely different for spectators and drivers.
Heat One is for the White (C) grade and Yellow (B) grade drivers, stalwart supporters of Coventry Stadium and is an opportunity for them to share in the prize money and to qualify for the meeting feature final.
The Stars, Superstars and Blue (A) grade drivers get their own bite of the cherry in heats two and three and the non-qualifying lower graders have another chance to hone their skills on the Brandon Oval by racing again in these heats, or by waiting to test their luck again in the Consolation race.
World Champion Andrew Smith, his National Series Champion brother Stuart, Craig Finnikin, Mark Gilbank, Paul Harrison, John Lund, Matthew Newson, and the aforementioned Daniel Johnson are the Superstars who headline these two heats and on his present form it is Andrew Smith who must be odds on favourite for top honours.
Anyone who attended our last splashing meeting will be hoping for the weather gods to smile favourably on the Rugby Road site. Thankfully Coventry’s unique covered terracing and grandstand seating together with the track view restaurant and bar do offer some comfort to the fans who much like the drivers don’t easily give in.
The meeting starts at 7:00pm for BriSCA F1’s with supporting races slotted in for the classic Unlimited Banger formula. Admission Adults £16. Concessions £12. Children 12 – 15 years £5 and accompanied children 11 and under FREE.

Three in a Row
2009 BriSCA F1 World Champion Andrew Smith will be defending his title at Coventry Stadium on Saturday 4 September. After successfully retaining his title last season Andrew equalled his friend and rival Peter Falding in having won the coveted BriSCA crown four times. For a driver as successful as Andrew, finding a new challenge in BriSCA F1 is elusive although 2010 could be a defining year as he bids for a hat trick of consecutive wins. Only two drivers in the spor
t’s history of World Championships have won the title on three consecutive occasions – the first being Dave Chisholm 252 (1973 at Ha
rringay, 1974 at Coventry and 1975 at Belle Vue.). The second being The One and Only, the M
aestro – six times World Champion Stuart Smith 1/391 (1983 at Coventry, 1984 at Belle Vue (Hyde Road) and 1985 at Bradford). Stuart, of course is Andrew’s father which makes the challenge of ‘Three in a Row’ even more thrilling. What an enticing build up to the sport’s main event the 2010 BriSCA F1 World Championship Final, Coventry Stadium, 4 September.

Emmen Racetrack NL
Our partnership with Emmen is going from strength to strength which is great news for this year’s World Final when we could see the highest turnout of Dutch F1 drivers and possibly a similar story on the Friday night with the F2’s. Minne Meyer the Emmen promoter has done an excellent job by licensing over 85 Dutch F1 drivers to race at the track and has grown a huge national following for banger racing from drivers to fans. We launched the Golden Helmet as an inter track championship last season which has seen a great deal of interest in Holland partly due to the difficulties at Venray but mainly as the Dutch love to take on the Brits. The last minute fixture change to place the British on the same day as the Emmen Golden Helmet has created a problem. We hope that a solution can be found to enable all the top UK drivers to compete in Holland by changing the fixture date so we are asking drivers and fans to check our respective web sites as we get nearer to the start of the season for an update on when the fixture will be run. We are continuing with our discussions on developing a large scale International Banger event which would rotate between Coventry Emmen and other European tracks which share our vision however this will not be in place until 2011. We both extend an open invitation to banger drivers from overseas who wish to race at our circuits during the coming season and will build upon those that made the trip in 2009. We will keep you all posted during the season as to our progress on developing all forms of International Oval Racing at both Emmen and Coventry.

World Wide Rebellion
Rebels Racing are delighted to announce that this year's World Wide Rebellion will take place at Coventry Motorspeedway. After a seasons break away from the shale the gold fight will return to the loose stuff and 2008 Coventry winner Lee Cooke will be delighted with this decision along with the majority of Rebellers as Coventry is always firm favourite on the calendar as this track always brings out the best in the sport. Cookie fought his way around the tough wet conditions back in ’08 to lap up to fifth place, a remarkable achievement for the Church Gresley racer. However he lost his crown to current Champion Graham Charlesworth who drove an epic twenty lapper around Buxton in September ’09 to take the glory ahead of hot favourite Nathan Etheridge.
Charlesworth won’t be handing over the trophy lightly as he could break rebel records by not only becoming the first racer to win the title on both surfaces but to be the only driver to win the Rebels World Wide Rebellion three times.
With the major race taking place at Brandon the formula predict high turnouts at all of their four meetings prior to the biggy as drivers will grab every opportunity they can to find the correct set up in preparation for October. Forty cars take to the grid for the major event and a qualifying round will take place at every track the formula appear at in the run up to the pinnacle race. Local star and current track champion Mark Rodgers will be determined to shake off the gold gremlins after being the bridesmaid so many times, however he will have fellow Coventry racer and current National Points Champion Keith Murphy to contend with as he will want to take all the glory on home turf.
After such a fantastic 2009 World Final event at Buxton Raceway the Coventry promotion have a lot to live up to but I am sure they won’t disappoint The date is set - 2nd October - let battle commence!
Sophie Clark
Interest in the new meeting format at Coventry Stadium giving White (C) and Yellow (B) grade F1 Stock Car drivers their own point scoring and prize winning heat is proving to be very popular with the lower grade drivers.
See you in Emmen
ASE | www.speedwayemmen.nl
